Mountain Divers held their first, big trip of the 2007 season with a training trip to Fantasy Lake SCUBA Park in North Carolina over the weekend of June 9th and 10th. The fun began with a multi-vehicular convoy of cars, trucks and SUV's. Leading the pack was the predominant Mountain Divers van featuring brand new, distinguishing graphics!
12 people earned their "Open Water Diver" SCUBA certification which, in Ken's words "Gives them a license to learn" the sport of SCUBA diving. 9 of those people
were Boy Scouts from Troop 103 in Beckley. A special thanks to Greg, the Scout Master, for demonstrating the true meaning of the Boy Scout Motto "Do A Good
Turn Daily" by refilling the SCUBA air cylinders between dives.
Mountain Divers Staff members assisted Master Instructor, Ken Parent with supervision of the dives and the students as they work toward their advanced certifications as "Dive Masters," "Dive Control Specialists," "Rescue Divers," and "Dive Instructors."
Other Mountain Divers were there to learn specialty courses like "Nitrox Diving" and "Under Water Navigation."
Ti Gaston, who's husband Mark earned his Open Water Diver Certification, went on the trip. These are her words. Thanks Ti for the contribution to the WV Mountain Divers web site
"Thanks.....and thanks again. The Fantasy Lake trip was great. Although only a lowly "bubble watcher" I have had an extraordinary time at this event.
I spent two days having a great time. I met a lot of great people. Randy and DeeDee, the couple that camped next to us were Great ( she even gave me coffee in the morning, something that makes you my lifelong friend) and boy do they know how to camp.
The sun was great the bugs were busy with someone else and life was good. We are already planning on the next one at the end of this month.
We have already talked one family of our friends into going with us.
It should be a great time. Here are some of my pics. I am definitely no camera person, but the scenery is great and my husband is a HAPPY MAN. I can't ask for more."
